MAKING RESIN TABLES WITH SELF LEVELLING 2074 + IV317 60% + IV321 30%
PREPARATION OF THE WOOD
Choose a wood that is at least 2 or 3 cm thick
With abrasive paper to sand the wood, if you choose a fine grain (300-400) the wood will preserve its original color because it will absorb less resin, if you prefer a dark color, use a coarse grain (60-80)
Cut the wood into several parts and blow it with compressed air or brush it with a soft brush to remove dust and sawdust.
Leave the wood near a heat source for 24-48 hours to remove all moisture.
PREPARATION OF THE FRAME
Create a wooden frame that will shape your table, 3-4 cm high (or if the wood is thicker, make it 1 cm thicker than the wood).
The surface does not need to be smooth, it has the sole purpose of containing the resin and eventually will be removed.
Place a sheet of polyethylene or nylon inside the frame, making sure it adheres to the edges, you can help yourselves with the double-sided tape.

POSITIONING OF THE WOOD
Place the pieces of wood inside the frame in the way you prefer, if you want you can also add other materials such as shells, rocks, stones, metal, leaves, flowers.
PREVENTIVE TREATMENT OF THE WOOD
Prepare about 500grams of acrylic base coat 2749 Acrifond catalysed at 30% with IV64 and diluted to 30-40% with polyurethane thinner.
Apply Acrifond uniformly (by spray or brush) on the entire surface of the wood and the materials that will be immersed in the resin
Wait until hardened (at least 4 hours)
Place the resin wood in its final position.
RESIN PREPARATION
Bring the resin and catalyst to a temperature between 15 and 20 degrees C°
Prepare the resin (A+B) in the ratios indicated on the package and once mixed completely without incorporating too much air, when the mixture is completely uniform and transparent let it rest for 15 minutes
CASTING OF RESIN
Cast the resin to the desired thickness,
Spray Denatured alcohol on the surface to remove any bubbles or foam, repeat this step every 15 min until the surface is completely free from air bubbles and foam.
Maintain a room temperature of not less than 20
Wait 24 – 48 hours for the resin to solidify depending on the thickness and the catalyst used the times can vary significantly.
FINISHING
Remove the table from the mold and correct the various imperfections with sandpaper or a saw
If the parts where we have retouched have become matte, it will be enough to apply with a brush a layer of resin to make the surface shiny, or a spray coat of the glossy acrylic top coat 1183 + IV205 at 50€ + Thinner PU at 40%
NOTES
Nylon is the cheapest solution but with a more irregular surface.
If instead you decide to want “perfection” you will have to buy a plexiglass tub like In this way the table will come out already perfect and you will do much faster.
If you want to create a colored table just add some pigments to the resin, mixing until you reach the desired color.
